It was about three nights ago that Ben came over to play Culdcept on Xbox 360. It’s a fantastic blend of Magic: The Gathering and Monopoly, that made Ben cuss and cry. While we were in mid-match he was eyeballing my Wii games, something that’s hard for me to do without feeling disdain. He saw the cover for Mad World and commented how rad it looked. “Yes, it was rad,” I told him. He played and dug it, I made him play No More Heroes which he liked a lot as well. ben weeabooI started my gaming career at the ripe old age of 6 with The Sierra Network, and what was arguably the first “MORPG”, The Shadow of Yserbius. Like any red-blooded American child I had already been hooked on the Atari 2600, NES and Genesis as soon as I was old enough to pick up a controller, but this was the first gaming experience that actually captivated me. It wasn’t just the fact that I was playing with real people across the country (a very exciting prospect at the time). It was the expansiveness of the task ahead of me, the care that went into character creation, and the immersive world you are thrust into with little more than your wits and a couple of gold pieces. It showed me that gaming could be more than entertainment, it could be an experience. I’ve been hooked ever since.
